At Oaks Day Nursery we pride ourselves on the close relationships we forge with our families and our nurturing and stimulating learning environment. The Butterfly Room has created a book voting station to encourage children to share their opinions and take an active role in choosing stories. Children can cast their vote for the book they would like to be read as the Story of the Week or as the group story at the end of the session.

Voting is an important experience for young children as it helps them understand that their thoughts and choices are valued. It encourages decision making, turn-taking, and listening to the views of others. Through voting, children begin to learn about fairness, democracy, and how group decisions can be made together. It also promotes communication and confidence, as children are given opportunities to express their preferences and see how their contribution can influence an outcome.

The book voting station supports children’s personal, social, and emotional development while fostering a sense of belonging and participation within the Butterfly Room community.
